U-Pass Price Freeze!

OC Transpo orginally proposed a price increase of 2.5% for the U-Pass.  Since it is too late in the year to hold another referendum to accept a price increase, the City of Ottawa's interim transit commission agreed to freeze the price of the U-Pass at $145 for another year.

Read the story in the Ottawa Citizen and the Metro.
More information about the U-Pass is available at http://www.u-passottawa.ca/ and on OC Transpo's website.

OC Transpo student bus pass REFERENDUM

I am certainly not the only one who has recently received an e-mail regarding upcoming GSAED elections in March, but I would like to take a moment to remind everyone that there will be an important referendum question during this upcoming GSAED election on the main campus.

While I find it hard to motivate myself to go to the main campus to vote, I think it will be important to speak out about how we feel about having imposed OCTranspo bus passes included in tuition fees. This motion has already been voted on and passed for undergrads at UOttawa and Careleton University. This will be particularly important to those doing a second full-time year in 2010-2011 (even coop students who still pay full-time fees for the 4 classes they will replace with coop)

As graduate students may reflect different needs and be at a different point in their life than undergraduate students, I think it is oh so much more controversial for us to address this.

Don't forget to vote on March 16th, 17th and 18th.

For those interested, GSAED will be holding a debate and information session on Monday March 8th at 4pm at the Terminus (2nd floor of the University Centre, behind Tim Horton's) where one can ask questions to the candidates and the campaign leaders for referendum questions as well.

Céline.

OC Transpo student bus pass news

Hey all,
If you use OC Transpo, or not, here is a piece of news in case you've been hiding under a rock.
They would like to include a bus pass fee into tuition so that everyone at Ottawa U. gets a bus pass included in fees. This is controversial, as not everyone wants to be imposed fees for a pass but the bus pass fees would be lower for all/"greater good" through a deal. As well the movement affects Ottawa U and Careleton U students. This said, the student vote has already occurred on the main campus. If you would like to follow this see:
