La GSAED lance sa 14e édition des Conférences interdisciplinaires!

Ces conférences se tiendront les quatre premiers mercredis du mois de mars. Elles donneront l'occasion à des étudiants diplômés de partager le fruit de leurs travaux de recherche avec la communauté universitaire et le grand public. Des conférences données par certains professeurs(es) de l'Université d'Ottawa sont également prévues au programme.

Nos activités proposent cette année d’explorer le thème rassembleur "État de nature" sous divers angles disciplinaires, des arts et des sciences sociales aux sciences et au génie, en passant par le droit et l'éducation. Elles mettront de l’avant des questions actuelles nous touchant tous, en tant que chercheurs et en tant que citoyens.

GSAED launches its 14th edition of the Interdisciplinary Conference!

The conferences will be held the first four Wednesdays of the month of March 2011. They will give the opportunity to graduate students to share their research with both the university community and the general public. Professors of the University of Ottawa will also be featured during the events.

The theme of this year's edition is "State of Nature". The relationship between man, society and the environment will thus be explored under all perspectives, from arts and social sciences to pure sciences and engineering, including law and education. Papers submitted by students offer creative and innovative perspectives on this theme. They will put forward current questions that matter to all of us as researchers and as citizens.

La GSAÉD planifie une expansion importante de l'espace étudiant. Le projet de la « Maison des diplômés » offrirait un espace étudiant, géré par les étudiants, payé par les étudiants et serait la propriété des étudiants.

« Êtes-vous d’accord pour payer une cotisation de 22,50 $ par étudiant par session pour les coûts de construction et de maintien d’une “Maison des diplômés” [...]? »

Assemblée publique: Centre étudiant de Maison des diplômés / Grad House and Student Centre Town Hall

Vos associations étudiantes (FÉUO - 1er cycle et GSAÉD - 2e/3e cycles) planifient une importante expansion de l'espace étudiante. On parle d'un projet de construction de plus 60$ millions qui comprend 2 édifices: le "Centre Étudiant" et la "Maison des diplômés". Ce projet serait pour les étudiants, géré par les étudiants, payé par les étudiants et sous la propriété des étudiants.

The GSAÉD has been planning a “Grad House” for many years now, to deal with the dire need for student space. This multi-million dollar building would be a space that you, the graduate students, which you would own and use, but at the price of new accessory fees.

A special meeting of the GSAÉD Council will be held to discuss the project: the challenges, the opportunities, the architectural plans, and the governance and finance agreements with the University.

We hope to inform your opinion and have your opinion inform our actions.

So take advantage of this gloomy Halloween Friday; dress up and get twice the benefits of being there. Don't do like I did a couple years ago when my costume was too big to fit in doorways... wear something that allows you to dance to DJ Brains4breakfast's Motown beats.

Appel de communication/Call for papers

La GSAÉD vous invite à sa 14e conférence interdisciplinaire qui se tiendra les 2, 3 et 4 mars prochains à l’Université d’Ottawa sous le thème État de nature. Ce colloque bilingue s’inscrit dans une logique d’interdisciplinarité et vise à enrichir la réflexion et les discussions sur des thèmes qui nous touchent tous. Lorsque pris dans son actualité, le concept d’état de nature amène une foule de questions concernant autant la nature et l’environnement que l’organisation sociale et le vivre ensemble.

Dans le cadre de l’évènement de cette année, nous invitons donc les étudiant(e)s inscrits aux études supérieures à venir présenter toute recherche s’inscrivant dans cette thématique qui appelle les réflexions sur :

• Les percées technologiques et la gestion environnementale ;
• Les impacts des changements climatiques ;
• La cohésion et l'exclusion sociale ;
• La place de l'individu au sein de la société ;
• Les politiques publiques et le vivre ensemble ;
• Le rapport entre le droit et l’environnement ;
• Les innovations scientifiques ;
• La biodiversité ;
• La nature en tant qu'inspiration artistique et philosophique ;
• Les liens entre changements sociaux et création artistique ;
• La diversité culturelle ;
• L’éthique ;
• La sécurité et l'intégrité personnelle et sociale ;
• Etc.

Les communications, en français ou en anglais, prendront la forme d’une présentation orale d’une quinzaine de minutes incluant une période de questions de 10 minutes. Les propositions doivent être accompagnées d'un résumé ne dépassant pas 300 mots, du niveau et du domaine d’étude de l’auteur(e).

The GSAÉD invites you to its 14th interdisciplinary conference, which will take place on March 2, 3, and 4, 2011, at the University of Ottawa, under the theme of State of Nature. With the idea of interdisciplinarity at its core, this bilingual event seeks to encourage reflection and discussion of themes that affect us all. When taken as a whole, the concept of state of nature brings forward a wealth of questions concerning a wide range of subjects, from nature and the environment to social organization and interpersonal relations.

As part of this year's event, we therefore wish to encourage graduate students to present any research that falls under the theme outlined above and that promotes reflection on subjects such as:

• Technological innovations & the environment;
• Climate change and its impacts;
• Social cohesion and exclusion;
• The place of the individual in society;
• Public policies;
• Environmental law;
• Scientific innovations;
• Biodiversity;
• Nature as a source of artistic inspiration;
• Links between social change and artistic creation;
• Cultural diversity;
• Ethics;
• Social and individual security and integrity;
• Etc.

 Participants are expected to present their research in either French or English. Each conference must not exceed 15 minutes, and will be followed by a 10 minute question period. Proposals must include the presenter's discipline and level of study, as well as an abstract no longer than 300 words.

Please forward your proposals to university@gsaed.ca by December 15th, 2010.
