A message from GSAÉD...
It's our monthly celebration of our higher education status, which comes at a price - tuition - but Grad night we will give you some respite by quenching your thirst.

So take advantage of this gloomy Halloween Friday; dress up and get twice the benefits of being there. Don't do like I did a couple years ago when my costume was too big to fit in doorways... wear something that allows you to dance to DJ Brains4breakfast's Motown beats.

Librarians Can Do Everything

And in other strange library news...

From a 1921 article in the Ashburton Guardian: "Quite accidentally Mr F. Martin Duncan, librarian to the Zoological Society, discovered he could hypnotize lobsters."

Are Libraries the Next Big Pop Culture Craze?

Heather Moulaison pointed out this fun article from the blog Monkey See on NPR that explains why there's been so much buzz around libraries lately - from videos, like Study like a scholar, scholar and Librarians do Gaga (both of which generated tons of views on YouTube and have been shared on this blog), to the world's new found respect for nerds and geeks. Plus, who can't get on board with an article that puts libraries and cupcakes in the same category?

Speed Bump - Kindle

Heather Moulaison pointed this out to me - from Speed Bump by Dave Coverly via Spectrum.

"I Write Like"

"I Write Like" is a website featured in a Toronto Star article. The website analyzes writing samples using keywords and gives you the name of a famous author who has a similar writing style as you. Who do you write like?

A Librarian's Guide to Etiquette

This blog always makes me laugh. There are some real gems posted here, such as:

Questions, Stupid
You are professionally obligated to tell your library's patrons that "There's no such thing as a stupid question," even though they will always try and succeed at proving you wrong.

April 22nd - Royal Oak MIS celebration!

Merci tout le monde de votre rétroaction!
We're estimated at just over 20 people now, so I think it is appropriate to say a majority have requested April 22nd or said that either date was good.

Je vous confirme donc tous la date, l'heure et le lieu de la célébration.
We will thus be celebrating Thursday, April 22nd, at 5:30pm
Location: Royal Oak at 221 Echo Dr.

If you would still like to RSVP, please send an e-mail to aesissa@gmail.com

If you would like to donate balloons or help decorate the Royal Oak just before 5:30pm that day, please reply on directly to this post!

Thank you to all students who sent us a video for the contest!

A staff judging panel has selected seven finalists. Now it's your turn - scroll down to: (1) view the videos, and (2) vote!
