Élections de l'AÉSISSA Elections 2011

Félicitations aux nouveaux membres de l'Exécutif de l'AÉSISSA!
Congratulations to the new AÉSISSA executive council!

27 January 2010

Let's get organized!

At some point, we're probably going to want to make a sticky with the purpose of our blog. We've also started discussing/mentioning some things for which we'll need volunteers.

I thought I'd make this post to start off some discussion and brainstorming. And to be clear, I'm not asking for volunteers, I'm just trying to figure out what we'll need volunteers for!

Purpose of our AESISSA blog

- Reaching all students, part-time and full-time.
- Providing updates on what's happening with the School of Information Studies : co-ops, ALA accreditation, courses offered, etc.
- Inviting students to any unofficial gathering we might want to have.
- Sharing any websites or any other information that might interest us.
- Fun!

We might need people who are willing to...

- Ask for updates on ALA accreditation and share with the blog (monthly?)
- Ask for updates on the co-op process (weekly?)
- Do a one-time post on services available to us at Lees. *
- Post “please post” emails sent to AESISSA@gmail.com
- Manage the blog (posting stickies, updating stickies, cleaning up tags, anything else?)
- Co-ordinate volunteers?
- Translate "official" AESISSA business?

*I still run into people that don't know about photocopying, that are unaware of our student lounge or that don't know the café hours! Of course, it's the responsibility of everyone to post to this blog when there's any interesting updates.

Not a purpose of the AESISSA blog

- Complaining to administration, teacher or anyone in a position of authority.

As an unofficial student association, we have no president and no voting procedure. Since we don't know if everyone is (and will stay) aware of all that goes on in this blog, we can't really have anyone « speak » in the name of AESISSA. That's why I think we can't use AESISSA for any sort of statements or to voice any complaints.

What about you? What do you all think? What needs to be added to the lists, what needs to be removed, should these lists even exist at all?

  1. Clarification: While we shouldn't use this blog to have anyone "speak" in the name of AESISSA, lacking a president and such, one precision is to note. M. Bonin is in fact aware we have a student space. He has agreed to answer a collective question if we ask one (such as accreditation questions for instance).
In this light, keep in mind that while we may apoint volunteers to staying updated on specific issues ALL are responsible for relaying information they deem important. For instance, those still in Roy's budget class, he tends to update his class on things that are going on, while others are not in these classes (part-time students, other classes, etc.) With this in mind, please participate information.

  2. Well, I'm happy to volunteer to admin the blog and AESISSA email address (since I'm doing that now anyway, might as well continue) - I can post anything people send there here and add people to the author list, etc...

I agree that the blog & email can't officially speak for all students, since no one was elected and nothing is official. That being said, and as Celine pointed out above, we can compile questions and send them to Roy or whoever is most appropriate to ask for information and clarification with the intention of sharing the answers here.

I think you summed up the purpose of the blog and what we need to do next really well. I wonder what info we should include in the sticky? Any ideas?

I also really like the idea of a post about the services available at Lees. We just need a volunteer who knows all about it to write it.
