OC Transpo student bus pass news

Hey all,
If you use OC Transpo, or not, here is a piece of news in case you've been hiding under a rock.
They would like to include a bus pass fee into tuition so that everyone at Ottawa U. gets a bus pass included in fees. This is controversial, as not everyone wants to be imposed fees for a pass but the bus pass fees would be lower for all/"greater good" through a deal. As well the movement affects Ottawa U and Careleton U students. This said, the student vote has already occurred on the main campus. If you would like to follow this see:

Coop job posting and interview process

So as far as I know, our program coop job postings are to be posted in the coop navigator as of February 22nd.
a) Does this sound correct to everyone?

Then, I understand that they are trying to rally employers to interview us in a one-week time spand (1st round feel interview and ranking week). Any interviews after this period would follow a 2nd round feel where we would have 24hrs to interview and rank as they come up.
b) Has anyone heard anything about between which dates this week is supposed to fall on?

Once we have established interview week dates, it will be important to communique it with our professors as they may fall on class times (schedule should be printable off coop navigator once we have an interview schedule set up).

If you get information before I do, please feel free to post it in this space.
Good luck everyone!

Céline.

Suggestion for "placement celebration"

Have you been as flustered as I have about this very first MIS coop placement process??
In the weeks to come, I gather we will all be quite busy juggling class and placement process obligations (such as checking the Navigator, going through the interview process, etc.).

I propose that when all is said and done, and that participants have a confirmed placement, we definitely ought to get together and celebrate this.

What says all?
(yes, I'm a bit eager to get to the celebrating part)

It'll be easier to plan once we actually find out WHEN the interviews themselves will take place.

Do you want to be notified?

Hi there everyone!

Do you want to be notified when there's a new post or new comments on the blog? Let me know and I'll add you to a mailing list and forward new stuff when it gets posted.

Julie suggested we start to have fun with the blog... I thought you might enjoy this video. It's from the National Library of Autralia's 2008 Christmas party. It's a dance routine involving a librarian, some zombies and a bunch of book carts, done to the tune of Michael Jackson's Thriller. It displays two of the librarian stereotypes that have been mentioned in class: the cardigan wearing frumpy librarian and the kung fu master librarian...

What did you say?

What do you mean 'kung fu master' isn't one of the librarian stereotypes?

Stop arguing with me and watch the video.

Is anyone else nervous about the cataloguing midterm?

Awful Library Books

Alright, I think it's time for some fun! If you agree and want to look at a fun yet relevant website, you could try visiting : http://awfullibrarybooks.wordpress.com/

As far as I understand, it's a blog by a few acquisitions librarians that find books that no longer really belong in their library collection, explain why they are no longer appropriate and share a few pictures. And some of these books are truly horrible.

For example, here's a book on becoming a library technician and another book on being Canadian.
