Services - At First Glance

Let's get organized!

At some point, we're probably going to want to make a sticky with the purpose of our blog. We've also started discussing/mentioning some things for which we'll need volunteers.

I thought I'd make this post to start off some discussion and brainstorming. And to be clear, I'm not asking for volunteers, I'm just trying to figure out what we'll need volunteers for!

Purpose of our AESISSA blog

- Reaching all students, part-time and full-time.
- Providing updates on what's happening with the School of Information Studies : co-ops, ALA accreditation, courses offered, etc.
- Inviting students to any unofficial gathering we might want to have.
- Sharing any websites or any other information that might interest us.
- Fun!

We might need people who are willing to...

- Ask for updates on ALA accreditation and share with the blog (monthly?)
- Ask for updates on the co-op process (weekly?)
- Do a one-time post on services available to us at Lees. *
- Post “please post” emails sent to AESISSA@gmail.com
- Manage the blog (posting stickies, updating stickies, cleaning up tags, anything else?)
- Co-ordinate volunteers?
- Translate "official" AESISSA business?

*I still run into people that don't know about photocopying, that are unaware of our student lounge or that don't know the café hours! Of course, it's the responsibility of everyone to post to this blog when there's any interesting updates.

Not a purpose of the AESISSA blog

- Complaining to administration, teacher or anyone in a position of authority.

As an unofficial student association, we have no president and no voting procedure. Since we don't know if everyone is (and will stay) aware of all that goes on in this blog, we can't really have anyone « speak » in the name of AESISSA. That's why I think we can't use AESISSA for any sort of statements or to voice any complaints.

What about you? What do you all think? What needs to be added to the lists, what needs to be removed, should these lists even exist at all?

New student association blog

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the new, completely informal, unofficial student association blog.

After Philosophy and Practice today, some of us were discussing the fact that we, as a student body, have no way of sharing information outside of class. We decided that we need a central place where students can share information, ask questions and discuss whatever is of interest to us. We thought a blog might be a good way for us to communicate with each other and we brainstormed the name - Association des Étudiant(e)s des Sciences de l'Information / Information Studies Student Association (AESISSA).

If you want to be able to post new topics, please send your email address to AESISSA@gmail.com and you will be sent an invitation to be an author on the blog. Your email address will be used to send you an invitation only, it will not be visible on the blog (you can also create a new email address in gmail or yahoo mail if you want to keep your current one private). If you don't want to use your email address but you still want to post something, you can email it to AESISSA with the subject line 'Please Post' and it will be posted for you.

If you have any comments or questions, you can put them in the comments section below, or email them to AESISSA. Emails to AESISSA will only be posted here if the author requests. Any comments you make on blog posts when you're signed in under the 'UOSISblog' username will show the name 'SIS', so don't forget to sign your name to your comments.

Right now emails sent to AESISSA go to me because I volunteered to set up the blog. We'll have to decide as a group who should take responsibility for overseeing it in the future.

Celine requested that I add (and she's absolutely right): Please feel free to comment or post in whichever language you prefer. This space is bilingual. If anyone wants to translate this message for me, please feel free.

Let's make this space our own!

Melanie
